Paratopia

Commissioned by DanceWorks and premiered in 2015, this performance piece explores an alternate reality through dance and music, combining the languages of Kathak dance, Indian tabla rhythms, contemporary movement and beatboxing. Inspired by the Matrix movies, Paratopia connotes innovation and synthesis -- envisioning an alternate world and a future of dance and music that move beyond time and space. 

In 2025 Pratibha Arts is producing the next avatar of this project highlighting the history of South Asian dance in Newfoundland:  'Paratopias' has been generously supported by the Metcalf Foundation's Booster Fund, the Canada Council for the Arts, the Ontario Arts Council, Toronto Arts Council and the Railpath Arts Centre. It will be premiered and co-presented with support from Neighbourhood Dance Works (NL) on Sept. 25, 2025, along with support from Live Art Dance (Halifax), IMPACTFest (NB) and Guelph Dance Festival - stay tuned to our social media channels for behind-the-scenes clips!
