Indian Classical Dance Schools

Kathak School of Dance

Adult classes for beginner/intermediate, offer a comprehensive introduction into all the facets of the kathak form.  These include basic knowledge of the north Indian rhythmic systems (taal), body vocabulary (ang), spoken language (bols) and recitation (padhant). Traditional compositions, introduction to Sanksrit Sloka, poetics such as Kavita, and songs rendered in narrative gesture are also explored.

Dance Shala

Our company is based on the belief that the dance and music, be it vocal or instrumental, not just enhances physical and intellectual development but it also provides a lifelong gift of creativity and enjoyment. Our instructors are Maestros in their respective fields with a dedication to share and teach their knowledge to the truly enthusiastic learners of all ages. We offer lessons in: Indian Classical dances - Kathak, Bharatanatyam, Odissi; Bollywood Dance and Bhangra; Classical Vocal (Hindustani and Carnatic); Voice Training; Bollywood Karaoke Singing; Bollywood Guitar; Instruments - Harmonium, Tabla, Sitar, Bansuri, Violin, Santoor. All our lessons are offered on a weekly basis. The group lessons are either 45 minutes or an hour, and the private lessons are 30 minutes.

Supriya Nayak, Odissi Dancer

Supriya has been a student, practitioner and teacher of Odissi dance most of her life. She teaches group Odissi classes at Studio Sama, New Delhi, and offers online classes for groups and individuals. Her classes bring together years of Odissi practice, a deep interest in the history and development of the form, as well as a study of the Alexander Technique and yoga to better understand movement and expression of the body in Odissi.
